- Sub: ?OOPascal/C++ benchmarks?
-
- We are about to embark on a long development journey with MPW (3.1) and MacApp.
- All is settled except for the issue of language. We have both MPW Pascal and
- C++, and were wondering if anyone has done any benchmarks on O. O. Programs
- written with MacApp in both Apple OOPascal and C++. We are particularly
- interested in the following:
-
- 1. How does development time compare? We've heard the "2 times longer to
- compile" horror stories with C++, but how does that really affect overall
- development time?
-
- 2. How does executable and run-time memory usage compare? Does the need for
- both C++ V-tables and MacApp/Pascal method tables in C++ cost that much in
- space on disk and in memory?
-
- 3. How does performance compare? Is there a significant (or noticeable)
- difference between a C++ and OOPascal MacApp program?
-
- If you have done any comparisons between these two flavors of MacApp programs,
- we would be VERY interested in any information you could give us. We would
- also like to know anything else related to OOPascal/C++-with-MacApp issues.
-
- Thank you!
